FREELANCE EDITING/CO-AUTHOR NEEDED
I am in need of long term (3-6 months) freelance editing for a work in progress novel. I am in the early research and development stages with a few chapters complete. I am open for discussion of standard compensation models but would prefer a blended model (i.e. flat or per chapter + profit share)
Background in eng lit, history, and economics will make for a perfect match. Send synopsis of experience and preferred time to call.
I quickly realized just how little I know about the industry and what is included in getting my work published. I need to add co-author to fully describe the gig.
WRITER/EDITOR FOR MAGAZINE
Monthly martial arts magazine needs a dedicated editorial specialist to handle all aspects of content for publication, including annual and monthly planning, developing article topics, writing most articles (3-4 features per month), edit contributed columns (8-10 for print and the web site), copyediting, proofreading.
You, as a candidate, must have significant magazine experience at the editor/senior editor/managing editor level, with demonstrable B2B writing skills, including contacts for freelance writing help for overflow assistance, past experience managing copyflow, and able to work flawlessly with a highly-experienced art director. Of course, you should know copyediting hands-down, and be a good writer. It’s a lot to ask, but you’ll learn a lot and it’s a fun, yet seriously professional project to work on.
You should be someone who enjoys “getting your hands dirty” and handling every part of the editorial workflow — the budget at the moment will not extend to hiring additional staff — you’ll do it all!
You should be familiar with the principles of direct-response, benefit-oriented marketing, able to blend those techniques into a compelling article, without writing fluff or turning each article into an advertorial. If the words “Kennedy/Glazer” mean something to you, in a positive sense, that is, you’re on the right track.
Familiarity with the martial arts is a plus, but not strictly necessary. We’re more interested in editorial expertise than the number of black belts you have; however, you’ll need to get up to speed on the industry very, very quickly.
This is a monthly, long-term contract gig, so you’ll need to be prepared to offer a proposal, including your fee to do this work. You should be prepared to work the time necessary to do a great job; don’t try to “fit this in” with a lot of other work — it won’t work!
For now, send a resume, with your contact information. If your qualifications look good, we’ll give you a call, send you sample issues of the magazine and more details about the company, and invite you to submit a proposal.
